How to Buy Airplane Tickets Offline

Although we live in a digital world where most people use online resources to make travel arrangements, the Internet isn't the only way to purchase airline tickets. Some consumers still desire to take the offline approach. There are many effective ways to buy airline tickets without accessing the Internet. You can buy them by phone, contact a travel agent or go to the airport to make a physical purchase.

Steps for buying an airline ticket on the phone

  Locate the toll-free number for your desired airline and call. (See Resources section for a list of toll-free phone numbers for all airlines.)

  Listen to the airline's automated system. Press the appropriate key that offers the option to purchase a ticket or speak with a representative.

  Provide the name of the traveler when asked, as well as other identifying information, such as age, that may be required.

  Provide your desired itinerary and travel dates. The representative will then offer you available flights and fares. Be aware that certain discount airfares may carry penalty fees if you attempt to change the ticket after purchase.

  Provide your credit or debit card information when asked.

  Once the transaction is complete, you will be given a confirmation number for the ticket.

  Use the confirmation number at the airline's kiosk in the airport to print out a physical copy of the airline ticket and flight itinerary. (If you provided a valid email address, this information will also be sent to you.)
