How to Buy Low Cost Airline Tickets

With the fluctuation of oil prices affecting the cost of jet fuel, airlines are beginning to raise prices.. but how do you find the cheapest airline ticket?

Things You'll Need

  • Internet access
  • credit card

Instructions

First, you must decide whether or not your travel plans are flexible. Traveling on dates around the specific date you were considering might lower the cost of your airline ticket.

    • 2

Begin searching at your favorite airlines website. That will give you an idea of the average price to fly to your destination. Do not purchase your ticket here just yet, use it as a reference.

Head over to SideStep.com or Kayak.com. Search for the same dates as you searched for at your favorite airlines website. These websites search through airline websites and allow you to compare prices side by side.

Once you find the lowest price, check out Orbitz.com. Search for the same dates again, and see if they match the lowest price you found. They have a new "lowest fare" guarantee that says if you buy a ticket for $100 and someone else buys a ticket on your flight at a later date for $50, they will refund you the $50. It wouldn't be a credit, but rather an actual refund, cash.
