How Do Air Charters Work?

Scheduled flights are allotted fixed departure times. Charter flights are more flexible and convenient, and although they are very expensive, chartering can be much cheaper for a business than the expense of operating its own plane or booking groups on commercial flights.
  1. Private Passenger Charters

    • Anyone with sufficient money can charter an airplane. The charter company organizes everything, from sourcing an appropriate plane and filing a flight plan to providing a crew, food and any other facilities that have been requested. Private charters are available on short notice and fly to any airport in the world at a time convenient to the client. Check-in is speedy and there are no baggage restrictions.

    Cargo Charters

    • Cargo charter planes range from light aircraft to 747 Supertankers. They carry any form of legal cargo, including hazardous substances and oversize items. Like private passenger charters, they can fly to destinations not served by scheduled air traffic and on short notice.

    Tour Company Charters

    • Tour operators charter planes to transport clients to popular destinations during peak holiday seasons. The charter airline provides the plane and staff, and the tour company organizes the route and sells the seats. Heavy financial penalties are incurred for canceled flights.
