Baggage Weight Limit for Domestic Flights

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a division of the Department of Homeland Security and governs the safety of transport systems across America. All domestic airlines adhere to the baggage restrictions imposed. Weight limits for baggage are enforced on domestic and international flights.
  1. Checked Baggage

    • Passengers are permitted to take one bag of checked luggage weighing no more than 50 pounds. A surcharge will be incurred if baggage exceeds the limit. The baggage must be no more than 62 linear inches based on its length, width and height.

    Carry-On

    • One carry-on bag is permitted and must be capable of fitting into an overhead locker or under a seat. The baggage must not exceed 45 linear inches for its width, height and length combined. Weight limits do not apply for carry-on baggage.

    Additional Items

    • Additional items such as jackets, umbrellas and children's strollers are permitted as carry-on extra items and will not incur a charge. Sports equipment, martial arts gear and weapons of any kind must be declared and carried as checked baggage. Work tools are permitted as carry-on items but are restricted to less than 7 inches in length.
