BRP-Rotax is a company that manufactures engines for a wide variety of vehicles, including snowmobiles, airplanes, motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), and go-karts. It is a subsidiary of Bombardier Recreational Products Inc, which is based in Austria. Among the major brands for which the company provides engines are Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobiles, Can-Am ATVs, and Sea-Doo personal watercraft. For each type of vehicle, BRP-Rotax manufactures several different engine models.
Rotax manufactures several different types of snowmobile engines. They offer 2- and 4-stroke, 1- to 3-cylinder engines with displacements between 270 and 1500 cc. Their engines range in performance from 27 to 150 horsepower. Their snowmobile engines come in two major models, the Rotax 2-TEC SDI, and the Rotax 4-TEC. The Rotax 2-TEC SDI is an innovative system that injects fuel into the transfer port of each cylinder. The Rotax 4-TEC is the first 4-stroke engine designed for snowmobiles.
Rotax Motorcycle Engines come in 2- and 4-stroke models. Among its models is the V990, a twin-cylinder motor that is designed primarily for racing. This model is lightweight due to having many of its components constructed from magnesium, and features a pneumatic power clutch system. Rotax also offers a 650 cc 1-cylinder motorcycle engine.
Rotax Kart motors include the 125 MAX direct drive engine, which is used in the RM1 Kart. The 125 MAX engine is a chainless engine, the first of its kind intended for use with karts. This engine also comes with a 2-speed gearbox that can be shifted from the steering wheel.
Rotax aircraft engines are designed primarily for smaller aircraft, and come in several different models. The 914 F/UL model is a 4-stroke, 4 cylinder engine that is both liquid and air-cooled, and comes equipped with a turbocharger. Engine type Type 582 UL is a 2-stroke, 2 cylinder engine that is liquid-cooled and manages 65 horsepower, while type 503 UL is also 2-stroke and 2 cylinders but is air-cooled and has slightly under 50 horsepower.
Rotax marine motors come in 4-TEC and 2-TEC varieties. They are all designed to be saltwater-resistant, as well as to run as quietly as possible. Rotax marine engines are used on boats as well as Sea-Doo watercrafts of many different kinds.
