Customs at the Bali Denpasar Airport

Before hitting an idyllic beach in Bali, you'll have to go through customs and immigration upon arrival to Indonesia. Bali's Denpasar airport, officially named I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, is often bustling with tourists, so getting through customs and immigration sometimes involves long lines.

  1. Visa

    • When you get off the airplane, follow the signs to the "Visa on Arrival" line. According to the Denpasar airport website, tourists from 52 countries, including the United States, can obtain a seven-day visa for $10 or a 30-day visa for $25, at the time of publication. While in flight, fill out an 'arrival and departure' card as well as a tax card. Once you get through the visa line, head to the immigration line and provide your passport and arrival and departure paperwork when requested.

    Customs

    • After authorities stamp your passport with a visa, you can collect your luggage at baggage claim. Then move onto the customs line, where you'll provide your tax card and have your bags inspected by customs officials. You'll be restricted to 200 cigarettes or 25 cigars, 1 liter of liquor, a personal amount of perfume and personal goods that are worth no more than $250. As a tourist, you can bring a camera or video camera, but you'll be banned from bringing fresh fruit and firearms among other items listed on industry websites such as the International Air Transport Association's site.
