How to Determine Distance in Air Miles

Air miles are calculated between two points on a map by measuring the distance between their corresponding latitude and longitude coordinates. Do not confuse air miles with driving miles, because roads and highways are not built in a straight line. Another consideration also needs to be made to where the airport is located if you are calculating a length of a flight.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet connection
  • Addresses of points of interest

Instructions

  1. Airport miles

Find the two cities that you would like to know the distance between.

Enter webflyer.com/travel/mileage_calculator/ into your browser. This is a Web site that will determine air miles between two airports.

    • 3

Enter the city you are departing. If you have the airport code, type that instead.

    • 4

Enter the city you are traveling to. If you have the airport code, type that instead.

    Latitude and longitude

Enter itouchmap.com/latlong.html into your browser. At the top of the page, enter the address that you are leaving from. Note the resulting latitude and longitude coordinates on the map.

    • 7

Go back to the home page and enter the address that you going to. Note the resulting latitude and longitude coordinates on the map.

    • 8

Enter indo.com/distance/ into your browser. This tool will allow you to plug in the latitude and longitude coordinates of the two locations.

    • 9

View the results. These results may be a little different that the first calculation since it is between two coordinates rather than two airports.
