Continental Luggage Requirements

Continental Airlines follows industry standards for conserving fuel and boosting profits by limiting the luggage weight each plane carries, as well as charging fees for all checked luggage.

  1. Checked Luggage

    • Bags must weigh no more than 50 lb., and bags over 70 lb. will not be accepted. Bags should be no larger than 62 inches (length + width + height).

    Checked Luggage Fees

    • The first bag is $15 and the second is $25, each way, in domestic Economy Class. Fees are waived for First, BusinessFirst, OnePass Elite members and active military personnel.

    Excess Luggage

    • Bags weighing 50 to 70 pounds are an additional $50. Bags larger than 62 inches are $100.

    Carry-On Bags

    • Each passenger may have a carry-on at no charge, measuring no more than 45 total inches and weighing no more than 40 lb.

    Personal Items

    • One other item small enough to fit under your seat is allowed, such as a purse, briefcase, camera bag or laptop case. In addition, travelers with small children may bring a collapsible stroller, child seat or diaper bag, and travelers' assistive devices such as wheelchairs and crutches do not count as a personal item.
