How to Use Alaska Airline Miles to Pay for Part or All of a Trip

Alaska Airlines' mileage program was voted "Program of the Year" for the fifth time at the 2009 Freddie Awards, a consumer-generated travel award. Alaska Airlines' mileage program offers round trip Super Saver award flights for as little as 15,000 miles. If you do not have the full amount of miles, you can use miles plus cash to pay for the flight.

Instructions

  1. Use Miles + Cash to Pay for a Flight

    • 1

Go to the Alaska Airlines website. Scroll over "Reservations" and click on "Award Flights."

    • 2

Enter your departure and arrival locations and the departure date and return date. Click "Start Shopping" when you are finished.

    • 3

Click on the dot next to "I want to use miles to receive up to 50 percent off the lowest fare," or "I want to use miles to receive up to 50 percent off unrestricted fares." Unrestricted fares are more expensive. Click "Continue" to go to the next page.

    • 4

Select your preferred flight by clicking "Select" next to the flight information. You will see a page of flight options with the reduced fare plus the required amount of miles you need to use. The minimum amount of miles you can cash in to get up to 50 percent off the flight is 7,500.

Continue to pay for the flight the same way you would pay for any flight on Alaska Airlines. You will need to log in to your Alaska Airlines account to prove you have enough miles for the flight.
