How to Replace Carpet in a Ski Boat

Boat carpet is made from closely knit polypropylene yarn. It also has a strong ultraviolet (UV) covering in a rubberized, moisture-resistant backing. Although many types of colors, styles and weights exist, the underlying factor with all types of boat carpet is that each is constructed to bond easily onto the deck.

Instructions

    • 1

Start in a corner. Lift the carpet from the bottom of the boat’s floor. The rest should come up with no trouble once you get the initial corner of carpet up. Start to pull the carpet firmly from the floor. Use the razor knife to cut the carpet into smaller pieces as you pull up the carpet. Put the pieces into the garbage bag. Sand the floor where needed. Check for weak spots on the floor. You will not need to use a glue softener on this project.

Inspect the drains. Make certain you are not trapping water in the front of your boat before you begin the process.

    • 3

Measure the dimensions you want to cover and mark them on the new carpet inconspicuously. Use the razor knife to cut it to size.

    • 4

Spray the glue on the floor as well as the back of the carpet. Allow the glue to dry for one hour.
