How long have the London buses been around?

London buses have been in operation for over 200 years, with the first horse-drawn buses introduced in 1829. The first motor-buses were introduced in 1896, and by 1914, all buses in London were powered by petrol engines. In 1933, the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) was formed, which oversaw the operation of buses and trams in London. The LPTB introduced the iconic red double-decker buses, which became a symbol of the city. In 2000, the LPTB was privatised and is now owned and operated by various private companies.
