Book your reservation ahead of time with a bus company that services Miami. For most bus companies, including Greyhound, The Florida Express Bus, and Miami Bus Service, the simplest way to reserve a seat is by going to the company website. (see resources 1,2) Under the "reservations" tab, type in the departure city, the date you'd like to travel, and your destination city. After you find a route and time that works for you, click "reserve" to book your ticket. Enter your credit card information when prompted. Other options are to reserve via telephone, or by showing up at the ticket counter. Paying in person is the least desirable because of the time involved, but if you're paying cash, it will be your only choice.
Verify your ticket. If you've booked your ticket online, use your computer's printer to print your receipt, for your records. If you've bought your ticket over the phone, the company may send you a receipt via mail or email. Be sure to print it and bring it with you on your travel date.
Pack your belongings in a reasonably-sized piece of luggage. Typically, buses allow you to have two pieces of luggage, much like you are allowed in an airplane. Be sure your luggage is not overweight or over-size, as you may have to pay extra for that.
Arrive at the bus station about an hour before your departure, to obtain your ticket from the ticket counter. You will need a piece of valid identification to pick up your ticket. Pay attention to the boarding time, as it may be quite some time before the bus is set to leave.
Board the bus when the announcer calls the boarding, to ensure you have a seat. Buses are often overbooked, and the buses bound for the busy metropolitan area of Miami are no exception.
