Were there cars in the Victorian era?

The Victorian era refers to the period between 1837 and 1901 when Queen Victoria of England was the monarch. During the early years of the Victorian era, there were no automobiles or cars. However, towards the end of the era, the first automobiles began to appear. In 1885, Karl Benz invented the first practical automobile. In 1886, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach invented the first four-wheeled automobile. In 1901, the first successful steam-powered automobile was built by Henry Ford. Therefore, while cars were not common during most of the Victorian era, they did start to emerge towards the end of the period.
