This is one of the few cruise companies that entirely bans smoking on all of its ships. As of 2010, American Cruise Lines (ACL) maintains a policy started in 2009 that bans all smoking indoors, in private rooms, and on open decks. ACL cruises are typically one week in length, traveling along famous American waterways like the Hudson River, the coast of Maine, and the rivers of Florida. Most tours seek to inform guests about the history of the areas visited, with shore excursions, themed lectures, music, theatrical performances and games.

After experimenting with a smoking ban in 2009, P&O Cruises has reinstated a very limited smoking policy. As of 2010, a complete smoking ban for any indoor area continues on all P&O cruise ships. Smokers will still be allowed to smoke on stateroom balconies and in designated areas on outdoor decks. P&O Cruises is a British affiliate of Carnival Cruises that offers luxury vacations traveling to exotic locales throughout the world. Families and couples are welcome on each cruise.

Another cruise line that is particularly courteous to non-smokers is Azamara. On each ship, there is only one location where guests are permitted to smoke, outside on the starboard side of the Pool Deck. Every other place on board is non smoking, including individual staterooms and suites. Additionally, virtually all shore excursions offered by Azamara are completely non smoking. Azamara was ranked one of the top five large cruise ship lines for 2010 by Travel + Leisure. It offers all-inclusive cruises to destinations in Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, South America, and more.
