Cruises are one-way; some depart from Portland and end in Lewiston, Idaho; others start in Lewiston and end in Portland. One major difference with American Safari is the size of the ship. American Safari ships hold up to 36 passengers, significantly fewer than the other lines' ships. Charters are available. Highlights may include jet boat rides, tours of wine country with tastings and a tour of the Bonneville Dam.

If you're looking for a shorter journey, consider Snake River Adventures. It offers dinner cruises on the Snake River, departing from Hells Gate State Park near Lewiston, Idaho, at 5 p.m. Saturdays and lasting about four hours. Dinner is served at Boyer Park Restaurant. Reservations are suggested.
