The Spirit cruises to Hawaii and Alaska, and was built specifically for those locations, with most of her cabins featuring balconies to take in the spectacular views, as well as a covered pool for the cooler Alaska cruises. The ship features an extensive children's area as well as several bars and theaters for the adult crowd.
  1. Basic Facts

    • The Carnival Cruise ship Spirit weighs about 86,000 tons. She can hold up to 2,124 cruising guests and has a staff of 930 people to serve the guests. The length of the Spirit is 963 feet. She cruises at an average speed of 22 knots. She has 12 decks. The Carnival Cruise ship Spirit took her inaugural cruise in the year 2001.

    Cruise Locations

    • The Spirit travels almost exclusively to Alaska and Hawaii; Alaska during the summer months, and Hawaii during the rest of the year when travel to Alaska is not possible. Although Carnival has somewhat of a "party" reputation, in part due to the large amounts of lounges and bars on its ships (the Spirit has 16), the Alaska and Hawaii cruises tend to have an older-age demographic.

    Cabins

    • The Spirit has outstanding cabins. Almost 80 percent of them are outside, and most of those offer balconies. The decor is muted earth tones. A basic cabin measures about 185 square feet, with two twin beds that can be combined to make a king. They all feature color televisions with first-run movies available, safes, hair dryers, phones and a separate vanity. Upgraded cabins (suites) also feature a separate dressing area, a refrigerator and much more room.

    Fitness

    • The Spirit has a large fitness room with upscale exercise equipment and a separate aerobics room. In addition, the ship features a jogging track and three swimming pools. One is covered for the Alaska cruises. Another is geared toward children, with a shallow splash pool and spiral water slide attached.

    Children's Activities

    • The Spirit has a camp program (fully supervised and free of charge) for children ages 2 to 15. The children have their own area, including a 2,400-square-foot "Fun House" that features room for crafts, computer and video games, and a movie room. There is a separate arcade on the ship as well, in addition to an outside area featuring jungle gyms, basketball and other outdoor courts. Babysitting from 10 p.m. onward is offered at an extra charge of $6 per hour.
