The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is a 23.830-mile (38.351 km) fixed link spanning Lake Pontchartrain in southeastern Louisiana. It is the longest continuous highway bridge over water in the world. The causeway was built by the state of Louisiana and opened to traffic in 1956.
