Why did Volkswagen discontinue building the Phaeton?

The Volkswagen Phaeton was discontinued because of low sales. The car was introduced in 2002 as Volkswagen's flagship sedan, and it was intended to compete with other luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8. However, the Phaeton never managed to gain significant market share, and sales of the car declined steadily over the years. In 2016, Volkswagen announced that it would be discontinuing production of the Phaeton.
