How many people use Non Emergency Medical Transportation in California?

In California, there were approximately 18.3 million annual non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) trips provided in 2019, according to a report from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). This number includes trips for various purposes such as medical appointments, dialysis, physical therapy, and adult day care. The majority of NEMT trips (85%) were provided by private transportation companies, while the remaining 15% were provided by public transportation agencies.
