Go to the "Reload CharlieCard" Web page on the MBTA website. Click the "Add Stored Value" or "Add a Monthly Pass" link.
Enter the Charlie Card's serial number in the designated boxes. The card's serial number is the number located on the lower left-side of the card's front-face.
Re-enter the serial number in the designated boxes. Click "Continue."
Follow the on-screen instructions to add funds to the student CharlieCard. Have your credit or debit card ready to transfer money.
Go to any MBTA T Station and locate a CharlieCard vending machine. All MBTA T Stations are equipped with vending machines. T riders may use the vending machines to purchase a new paper CharlieTicket, check the remaining value on their current CharlieTicket or CharlieCard, or add funds to a CharlieCard.
Tap the CharlieCard on the scanner target located on the right side of the vending machine.
Select amount of funds you would like to add to the student CharlieCard. MBTA vending machines are equipped with touch-screen technology. Therefore to make a selection, use your finger to tap the option you want on the screen.
Choose your payment method (cash or credit card). Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your payment.
Tap the card on the vending machine's scanner target once again, after the payment has been submitted, to add the money to the card. If you fail to complete this step the payment you just submitted in step 4 will not be added to the card.
