How to Install a Black RV Holding Tank

RV manufacturers use several different holding tanks. Tanks for fresh, grey and black water keep the plumbing system in the rig working. A black water tank isolates the sewage that comes from the RV toilet. Almost all RVs use a holding panel area to house the black water tank. Install a black water tank to keep waste water away from the fresh water in the camper.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the RV and set the parking brake. Disconnect all water connections and turn the main circuit breaker in the rig off. Open the black water tank housing panel, typically found in the rear side of the RV.

    • 2

Put the safety equipment on and locate the hose coming from the RV toilet. The hose is usually at the back of the housing area. Pull the hose out for easier access and manipulation. Place the black water tank onto the housing area in the panel.

    • 3

Remove the cap from the black water tank nozzle. Slide a hose clamp onto the toilet hose. Push the hose down onto the tank nozzle with the wrench. Slide the hose clamp over the point where the hose is over the nozzle and tighten the clamp with the screwdriver.

    • 4

Caulk the attachment points of the hose and tank nozzle to make the seal watertight. Close the tank housing panel.

    • 5

Go to the back of the RV toilet and check the hose connection on the toilet. If loose, tighten the hose clamp and add a coating of caulk to the attachment points.
