    Piney Point

    • In 1952, Florida resident J. B. Turberville decided to convert his 70 acres of farmland into a manufactured home park. Now the park is run by Piney Point Homeowners Inc. as a nonprofit cooperative in Palmetto, Florida, that houses 381 spaces on 72 acres. Available to those over the age of 55, eligibility for a space requires the interested party to purchase a membership certificate that would give them a proprietary leasehold interest in Piney Point.     Terra Ceia Manor

    • Located just four miles away in Bradenton, the Terra Ceia Manor is a cooperative community for those over 55. There are 200 homes in this community, in addition to a pool, mail room, library, clubhouse, social hall and shuffleboard courts. The homeowners association regularly coordinates activities to keep its residents busy, such as potluck dinners, Bible study, pancake breakfasts, game night and water aerobics. Fees for this community are: $31,000 for a cooperative shareholder fee; $110 monthly fee for shareholders; and a $297.90 to $420.61 monthly fee for leaseholders.
