How to Install a Dark Water Tank Under an RV Conversion

Three water tanks are required to use the faucets and toilets in an RV. Freshwater tanks hold the water used in showers and sinks for bathing, cleaning and showering. Gray water is used for water runoff from showers and sinks, and the black (or dark) tank holds waste from the toilet. These tanks often come with RVs, but a dark water tank can be added to an RV conversion project.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch on paper the outline of our RV to decide where you want to mount the tank. Think about where the plumbing is because you want the tank to have easy access to it. Mark the location of the sink, toilet and shower on your sketch. Draw in the holding tank as well.

    • 2

Place the black tank in the location mapped out. Be sure that it is under or near the toilet because the waste needs to be flushed into the tank.

    • 3

Mount the water pump per instructions. Drill the brackets into place holding the tank. Instructions will vary from model to model.

    • 4

Strap the tank into place per manufacturer's instructions. Place the tank on the brackets and secure with the wrench.
