How to Repair RV Water Tanks

Having water in your RV is a luxury, but a leak in the holding tank can cause major problems. Leaking can cause water damage to furniture or even riuin appliances. It is important to fix leaks in the water tank before it turns into a large, costly repair. When a hole appears in the water tank, it is easy enough to fix as a weekend project.

Instructions

    • 1

Drain the tank. Open all faucets to assure the tank is completely empty. Wipe out the tank so it is dry.

    • 2

Remove the tank if necessary or it is hard to work on in place.

    • 3

Drill a 1/8 inch hole at each end of the crack.

    • 4

Rough the area by sanding it to add adhesion.

    • 5

Cut a fiberglass patch about two inches larger than the crack in all directions. Mix the epoxy with its catalyst.

    • 6

Dab a layer of resin over the sanded area with a brush. Lay the patch over the resin.

    • 7

Add more resin to the patch until glossy and the cloth fibers are covered. Let it dry for 24 hours before filling the tank with water.
