How to Winterize a RV Generator

A generator in your RV gives you the freedom to use electricity even when a conventional power source is not available. When putting your RV in storage for the winter, there are a number of steps you must complete to avoid damaging the unit. If your RV has to be winterized for storage, so does your RV generator. This is an easy process that only takes a short time to complete.

      Drain the fuel from the system, including the carburetor.

      Use a hand siphon to drain the gas tank completely.

      Drain the fuel bowl by opening the left side of the engine cover and the spark plug cover on top of the generator.

      Remove the spark plug cable from the spark plug.

    • 5

      Loosen the carburetor drain screw.

    • 6

      Drain the gasoline.

    • 7

      Turn on the engine switch.

    • 8

      Turn the engine over three or four times. When empty, tighten the drain plug.

      Turn the engine off.

    • 10

      Replace the spark plug cable. Close the engine cover.
