How to Winterize a Volvo Penta 125

The Volvo Penta 125, a marine engine, powers medium-sized boats. This powerful engine runs well in the warmer months, but requires preparation before you store it for winter. If you cannot store your entire boat in a heated or insulated garage, try to remove the engine and store it indoors. If you store the Volvo Penta 125 in a dry location, where temperatures do not fall below freezing, you do not need to winterize it.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the tank with fuel stabilizer. Fill the gas tank with gasoline. Turn on the engine and allow the fuel stabilizer to circulate.

Spray the carburetor with flogging oil. Turn off the engine.

    • 3

Remove the crank case drain bolt, using a torque wrench. Drain the oil, using an oil drain pan. Add new oil to the crankcase and replace the bolt with a torque wrench.

Remove the covers of the air intake filter and the motor. Spray a moisture-reducing lubricant on the engine. Replace the cover.

    • 5

Connect a hose to the engine's fresh water connection.

Clean the outer board with a damp, soapy towel. Wipe it clean with a try towel. Apply paste wax, using a cloth. Buff the wax, using an orbital buffer.
