The Volvo Penta D1-20 is an 18-horsepower diesel inboard marine engine. The engine was designed with new combustion chambers, an engine speed of 2,800 rpm to 3,600 rpm and a new inlet air silencer to produce a smoother and more comfortable ride.
The Volvo Penta diesel marine engine is equipped with a 12-volt corrosion-protected electrical system and a 14-volt marine alternator with electronic sensor, which makes it possible to use a higher battery capacity and have fully charged batteries on board. There are electronic start and stop motor functions, as well as glow plugs for reliable cold starting.
The Volvo Penta diesel marine engine has a chrome molybdenum-forged crankshaft balanced with integral counterweights that produces 18.8 hp. There are three choices for transmissions: the MS10A, MS10L and S-Drive 130S and 130R. The MS10A is a reverse gear with an eight-degree down angle. The MS10L is a reverse gear with straight output. The S-Drive 130S and 130SR are for standard and reverse installation.
The engine lubrication system has a spin-on full-flow oil filter, separate oil scavenger pipe and closed-circuit crankcase ventilation. The fuel system has a flange-mounted, cam-driven in-line injection pump, a feed pump with hand primer and a spin-on type fine fuel filter. The cooling system is a freshwater system with thermostat, tubular heat exchanger with expansion tank and an easily accessible seawater pump and impeller.
