Caterpillar 3512 Diesel Engine Generator Set Specifications

The Caterpillar 3512 engine is designed for marine propulsion and can primarily be found used in clusters, or sets, in large yachts and seafaring freight transportation vehicles. When engineered as a generator set, the diesel-powered 3512 has relatively low emissions output and features an integrated electronic control system. Caterpillar also manufactures a wide range of accessory attachments, which contribute to making it a versatile generator set.
  1. Specifications

    • The 3512 generator set is capable of producing 470 volts at 1800 rpm. The generator employs a permanent magnet as its excitation element. It has four poles, two bearings and a close-coupled alignment. A four stroke water-cooled diesel engine with a bore and stroke of 6.69 inches x 7.48 inches powers the generator. The engine's overall displacement is 3,161 cubic inches and it has a compression ration of 13.5:1.

    Standard Equipment

    • Standard equipment on the 3512 is rather extensive. It is fitted for right-hand operation and features an onboard control system. The generator's ignition is built of 24-volt starting motors and the engine is fed through direct fuel injection. The engine's air intake is a single air canister with a built-in filter. Operating temperatures of the engine and the generator are minimized by the water-based cooling system composed of a radiator, cooling fans and coolant drain line. The generator features anti-condensation space headers, a built-in voltage regulator and class F insulation.

    Electronic Control System

    • Various operating parameters of the 3512 generator set can be viewed on the set's LCD control panel (included), which is designed to be wall-mounted. This panel provides access to a wide variety of data and control points, including standard controls such as run/auto/stop, speed adjustment, voltage adjustment and emergency stop. The LCD readout gives digital indicators for the generator's operating rpm, total number of operating hours, alert for low oil pressure, operating coolant temperature and overall system DC volts.
