One of the perks of owning a boat is taking it out in a body of salt water for fishing or pleasure. The downside to this is the build up of salt deposits on your boat. This decreases the value and limits the life of your boat, much like road salt damages land vehicles in winter weather. Removing the salt water spray from your boat is simply a matter of maintenance. A little extra effort after a long day on the water can remove salt water from your boat.
Find your salt water pump and remove the outlet hose from it.
Connect a fresh water hose to the salt water pump hose outlet.
Find the spot where the raw water loop leaves your boat's engine and goes into the exhaust channel.
Remove the hose and dump the water flow into the bilge or overboard.
Turn on your fresh water hose. Allow the water to slowly move through the engine to remove any possible salt deposits.
Fill a 3 to 5 gallon pump garden sprayer with 50% water and 50% vinegar.
Mist the entire exterior of your boat with the water/vinegar mixture by using your garden sprayer.
Wipe down the exterior of your boat with clean dry towels.
Repeat steps 1 through 3 after each boat use.
