Can You Hook a Satellite Dish to an RV?

If you're sitting in your RV trying to watch your favorite TV shows and all you can tune in is snow or a couple of local channels while your neighbor is watching a clear picture on his satellite TV, consider doing what your neighbor did; it is easier than you think to install a satellite dish on your RV.
  1. Hardware

    • Most satellite systems are pretty similar in hardware. They all have a small dish, a receiver, a remote control and a bunch of installation items.

    Location

    • Figure out where you want to mount the satellite dish. The best location is on the roof or on a tripod inside the camper.

    Receiver

    • Mount the receiver somewhere inside the RV, close to the TV so you don't have to run many long cables. Keep in mind that you need to use the remote in front of the receiver, so put it in a convenient spot.

    Signal

    • Connect the signal from the dish to the receiver. Ad each installation kit is different, follow the kit's directions.

    Cables

    • Install a cable connector in your wall next to the TV. This will prevent cables from running all throughout the RV. Run a cable from the jack to the receiver's satellite antenna input for service.
