Yes, Japan has invented aircrafts and has a thriving aerospace industry. Japan's first successful airplane, called "The Asahi Shimbun", was designed and flown by engineer Shikata Tokutomi. It took to the skies on December 19, 1910, just about seven years after the Wright brothers' historic feat in the United States.
