How to Remove Aircraft Seats

Aircraft seats, especially on small aircraft, are not dissimilar to automobile seats. In order to be light in weight, aircraft seats are often less complex than automobile seats, and are thus easier to remove. Small airplane seats usually have four legs, at the bottom of which are track guides and rollers. The seats themselves usually aren't bolted to the tracks, but instead secured with stand-alone fasteners that attach onto the railing, both in front of and behind the seats.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify that your aircraft seat is secured to the seat railings with stand-alone fasteners. They are usually red in color and have a wing nut-type screw.

    • 2

Turn a fastener nut counterclockwise until the fastener is loose enough to slide around on the railings. Remove all fasteners from your seat(s) in this manner..

    • 3

Slide the fasteners off the railings. The seat should now slide freely along the tracks.

    • 4

Slide the seat backward or forward toward the end of the railing, depending on which end has more space for removal. Once all of the legs have been slid off the railings, you can lift the seat out of the aircraft.
