How to Remove a Mooney Glareshield

Mooney aircraft are single engine, low-wing personal airplanes. Mooneys are among the fastest single engine, piston-driven propeller aircraft and are used for recreation and cross-country aviation. One thing you first notice about the Mooney cockpit is how close the panel and controls are, necessitating the movement or removal of such things as glareshields from the ceiling and windshield when they are not needed. Mooney glareshields come off with a minimum of fuss and no hand tools are required.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the left aircraft door and lean into the cockpit. Pull the right side of the glareshield out from the holding tabs, which are much like those of an auto's visors.

    • 2

Pull the glareshield down and over toward the door. Grip the metal arm on the upper-left side of the glareshield.

    • 3

Apply downward pressure on the metal arm until you feel the arm begin to move out of the housing. Continue to pull until you feel a "click" like a single ratchet movement.

    • 4

Push the metal arm toward the center of the airplane and pull the remainder out, along with the glareshield, from the airplane. Store the glareshield in the pockets behind the seats should you need it during flight.
