Set the fifth wheel kingpin to the height of the truck hitch. You will need a truck to tow the fifth wheel camper. In addition, you should check your truck's towing capacity to make sure it can handle the weight of the fifth wheel camper.

    • 2

Lower the tailgate of the truck. Open the locking bar of the truck hitch.

    • 3

Turn on the truck and slowly back up so the truck bed is under the trailer. Back up until the hitch clicks with the kingpin of the fifth wheel trailer. Secure the hitch lock bar.

    • 4

Gently place the truck into gear to make sure the hitch is locked in place.

    • 5

Connect the breakaway switch cable and the umbilical cord. This should hook up the trailer lights and the brakes. Before getting on the road you should check to make sure these functions are working.

    • 6

Place the truck tailgate back into the upward position. Raise the landing gear for the fifth wheel trailer. Remove the wheel chocks from the wheels of the trailer.

    • 7

Carefully pull the fifth wheel camper to your chosen destination. Remember to be aware of other drivers around you. This is especially important because it can be easy to forget that your vehicle is much longer with the fifth wheel. Choose parking areas with plenty of room for the truck and camper.
