Place wheel chucks at all four wheels and disconnect from the tow vehicle once the camper is in the location you want it. The chucks keep the camper from moving once released.
Unhook the latches that hold the camper top down and secure it for travel. Depending on the model of camper, there are between 3 and 6 latches. These are typically simple lift and release latches.
Insert the removable crank handle into the slot to turn the gears and raise the camper top. Watch the rise of the top while cranking carefully and if you seen any problems stop immediately. Also listen for any strange grinding sounds that indicate a problem. Listen for a popping noise or when you feel resistance on the crank to know when it is at the highest point.
Extend the bed flaps and place bed support poles in position. Some models have detachable poles, while others are mounted and swivel down from the bottom of the bed. Swing mounted poles down until they click into place and position removable poles at the marks located on the frame.
Pull the beds out and position them in place onto the bed frame and check the poles and frame position to ensure it is sturdy. Attach secondary support poles into the bottom of the bed at the indicated holes. Extend these down to the ground and place a piece of 2-by-4 or flat stone beneath the poles to keep them from sinking into soft ground.
Attach extra support poles for the main top if applicable for your model. Some campers require you to also lock the poles in place with toggle screws.
Lower the stabilizer jacks that help support the weight of the tent and offer a more sturdy position. Insert the turning bar onto the gear and crank the jacks into place. These do not level the camper; they offer greater balance so it doesn't topple over.
Hook the ends of the canvas side panel's straps over the bolts in the underside of the camper to allow rain or debris to slide off the sides easily and not enter the unit.
Insert the interior bed support poles that raise the canvas into the tent shape necessary to have space at the side beds. These connect inside the camper in the same manner the poles under the bed connected, with ends that fit into slots and apply tension.
Arrange the interior by raising the sink, setting up the table, attaching the stove gas line and arranging sofa cushions.
Remove the locking bolt from the door and swing it down from the roof and into place. Latch the floor mounts to the base of the camper and open the door to check for ease of use. Align the canvas flap on the outside of the door and connect the hook and loop fastener tabs to weather seal the door to the frame. Pull the step from its housing under the trailer and lock it into place.
