How to Tarp a Pop-Up Camper

Recreational vehicles (RVs) are a great way for individuals and groups to get away and enjoy the outdoors. Pop-up trailers are very lightweight units and can easily collapse into their own solid body for travel and storage. The exterior of most pop-up campers is a poly-vinyl product that can be prone to mold, mildew (which is difficult to remove) and ultraviolet radiation damage. Installing a tarp on the pop-up while it's stored is a good solution that provides protection for the RV at a reasonable cost.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and record the length of your camper from the front of the body to the rear.

    • 2

Measure and record the width of your camper from the left side of the body to the right.

    • 3

Measure and record the height of your camper from the bottom of the body to the top (include the air conditioner if the camper is so equipped).

    • 4

Purchase a tarp long enough to cover the length measurement plus two times the height measurement. The width of the tarp should be the width measurement plus two times the height measurement.

    • 5

Purchase enough rope to reach from the front to the back of the camper eight times. (This should be one continuous piece if possible.)

    • 6

Cover the camper with tarp and center it over the top. It may help to have an additional person for this.

    • 7

Tie the tarp from side to side under the camper using the rope and the eyelets built into the tarp. There should be at least two ties in front of the axles and two behind.

    • 8

Tie the tarp from front to back under the camper using the rope and the eyelets built into the tarp. There should be at least three ties used.
