How to Repair a Pop-Up Camper Roof

A pop- up camper is an economical way to camp. This type of camper is pulled behind a car, SUV or van and is opened up at the campsite. It has a hard roof and soft sides. Just like any motor home or luxurious fifth wheel, lack of care, age and Mother Nature can damage its roof. Do-it-yourselfers can make many roof repairs.

  • Silicone-based sealant
  • Caulk gun
  • Plastic scraper
  • Mild soap and water
  • Clean rags
  • Screws
  • Screwdrivers

Instructions

      Inspect the roof, when closed, looking for cracks or holes.

      Remove the old caulking, using a plastic scraper. Scrape any excess caulking off the roof.

      Wash the area with mild soap and water and clean rags. Let the area air-dry.

      Apply new sealant with a caulk gun. Put caulking along the seams of the roof. Wipe off any excess sealant.

    • 5

      Remove screws if the leaking is around the screw holes. Add sealant to the hole and replace with a screw that is larger than the original, using a screwdriver.
