How to Remove a Caravan Awning

Caravan is a term frequently used in the United Kingdom to refer to camper trailers. Camper trailers use retractable awnings that sometimes require cleaning the fabric. To clean the fabric, remove the awning. Caravan awnings attach to the camper via mounting brackets, often secured with screws. Remove the screws to remove the awing. It helps to have an assistant when taking down these bulky devices.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the caravan and ensure you have chocks under the wheels and that the caravan is sitting level. Place the step stool next to the awning mounting bracket. Retract the awning.

    • 2

Adjust the power screwdriver so it turns counter-clockwise. Attach the proper type of screwdriver bit --flathead or Phillip's. Use the step stool to get a good stance at the mounting bracket screws. Unscrew the screws and gently grip the awning as it comes off the caravan.

    • 3

Pass this side of the awning to the assistant. Move the step stool to the other side of the awning and have the assistant hold the opposite side. Unscrew the screws from the mounting bracket and remove the awning from the caravan.

    • 4

Place the mounting brackets and screws in a ziplock bag and tape the bag to the awning for storage. This ensures that you don't lose the attachment pieces.
