How to Repair a Torn RV Awning

Many Recreational Vehicles (RVs) come equipped with a pullout awning that provides protection from the sun and rain. These canopies are retracted into the side of the RV when the unit is in transport and can be pulled back out again when the unit is parked. All this movement and exposure to the elements makes awnings susceptible to rips and tears. Fortunately you can fix the tears without replacing the entire canopy.

Clear awning repair tape

Instructions

  Pull the release lever to release both awning arms. Unwind the awning fabric from its roller and remove it completely. Lay it on a flat surface.

  Clean the area surrounding the tear with soap and water. Allow the awning to dry in the sun until the fabric is completely dry.
- 3
  Piece the two edges of the tear together and apply a strip of clear awning repair tape to join the two edges together. Use several strips if you are worried that one will not do the job.

  Turn the awning over and seal the tear from the backside to complete the repair.
