What is the airfoil?

An airfoil is the aerodynamic surface of an aircraft's wing, blade or other lifting surface. It is defined by its shape, size and camber, and angle of attack to airflow. The shape and camber of the airfoil are designed to create low-pressure above the wing and high pressure below the wing, creating lift forces that are greater than drag. Lift and drag forces act on the wing, providing lift and causing drag. Airfoils are used to create forward and upward lift that makes it possible for an aircraft to fly.
