The Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS) are the mandatory technical standards governing the design, construction, and quality assurance of all building and infrastructure projects in Qatar. Developed and enforced by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the QCS ensures safety, durability, sustainability, and regulatory compliance in one of the world's most ambitious construction environments.

Scope and Legal Status

QCS applies to all public and private projects in Qatar. Compliance is a condition for building permits, occupancy certificates, and handover. It integrates Qatar-specific requirements (climate, seismicity, materials availability) with international codes (BS, ASTM, ACI, Eurocode, NFPA).

Core Technical Sections

1. Structural Design: Seismic (Qatar Seismic Code), wind, gravity loads; concrete (QCS/BS 8500), steel (BS 5950/EC3), foundations on weak/sabkha soils.
2. Geotechnical Investigations: Mandatory site investigation reports; soil classification, bearing capacity, liquefaction, groundwater, corrosivity.
