Purchase a train ticket/pass from one of the railway stations in Europe, or through the website RailEurope.com (see Resources). If you know you are only going one way on the train, purchase a single ticket (this will vary from where you are departing and the length of your journey). A RailPass can be purchased for either 15 days, 21 days, a month, two months or three months. These passes will allow you to travel on the train whenever you want to during the set time period. Prices for one adult first class ticket can range from $742 to $2,079.
Remember that Europe uses the 24-hour clock. It may be handy to have a digital watch on you that can be programed to use the 24-hour clock.
Pick up a route and time map from the train station. These will have the times and destinations of the trains (they can change with the season, so it is best to have an updated map).
Arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before the train departs (although an hour is better). This will give you time to board the train and find a seat.
