Eurail has four types of passes: Single-country passes are valid in one country of your choice; Select passes are valid in three, four or five bordering countries of your choice; Regional passes are valid in one of the many regions designated by Eurail; and Global passes are valid in 21 countries in Europe.
You can buy a pass for a selected number of days. If you purchase a three-day pass, you can ride the train an unlimited amount of time for three days within a one- or two-month period. The days do not have to be consecutive. Buying a pass is cheaper than buying individual tickets and gives you flexibility to ride the train whenever you want.
You can purchase a Eurail pass for the lowest possible price on the Eurail website. The pass will be shipped to you within two to four days. A Youth pass is the least expensive and can be bought for riders who are 25 and younger, and an Adult pass is for riders 26 and older. The Saver pass is the best deal for adults, because you get a discount if you buy passes for two or more people. The two people must ride the train together at all times. The Youth passes are only available for second-class train travel. The Adult and Saver passes can be either first-class or second-class depending on the type of pass you buy.
Various tourist sites, hotels and transportation not covered by Eurail offer discounts when you show your Eurail pass. Refer to the link "Eurail Pass Discounts" under "Resources" at the bottom of this page for a list of countries with vendors that offer discounts with a Eurail pass.
