Investigate the differences between the classes before you book your train travel. Silver & Blue Class has five levels and entitles the traveler to a bed, shower, private room, and preplanned meals. It costs more than twice as much as Comfort Class. However, the food in the dining car is expensive, so plan for that or bring your own food if you book your travel on Comfort Class.

Take alcohol on board if you wish, but if you do, you are only legally allowed to drink it in your bedroom. If you want to drink in other areas of the train, you need to buy drinks on the train.
Learn about the Canrailpass. It lets you travel anywhere on Canada's rails for one price. You may travel for 12 of 30 days. The pass costs around $500 Canadian for adults during the off-peak season, with a 10 percent discount for children, students and seniors. Travel during the peak season will add roughly 60% to the price.
Book your travel online at the Rail Canada Web site. You can also make reservations over the telephone, with a travel agent or just buy your tickets in person at the train station.
