Use a straight edge saw to split a 6-foot-long 2-by-8 in two, making two pieces that are 3 feet long.
Lay a 36-by-7 1/2-inch sheet of plywood on one of the 3-foot pieces and put the second 3-foot 2-by-8 on top of the plywood, creating a 2-by-8 sandwich with plywood in the middle. Make sure that the ends are flush and that no plywood is sticking out. The next step is to screw all of this together, so it's a good idea to tack all these pieces together with nails.
Stagger holes up and down the length of the 2-by-8 with a drill, making sure not to get too close to the top or bottom and not to put a hole right in the middle.
Find the center of the 2-by-8's length and measure 3-1/2 inches from the side of the 2-by-8 mark it with an X or a dot. Drill a hole and make sure you go in straight.
Insert a pipe flange and countersink in the hole marking drill holes. When pre-drilling flange holes make sure you drill in at a 20 to 30 degree angle away from the hole to prevent shiners.
Tap a 3/4-inch pipe into the 1-inch hole until it reaches the flange and tighten it with a pipe wrench.
Insert the lift somewhere beneath the motorcycle's engine. Make sure you're not going to put pressure on something you shouldn't and make sure that the ground is level. Hold your bike upright with your left hand leaving the kickstand extended outward.
