Washington Law: Transporting Cylinder Gas

According to the Washington State Legislature, the transportation of gas cylinders within the state of Washington must comply with federal regulation designed by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
  1. Regulations

    • Washington State Legislature reports the transportation of cylinders and containers is covered under state regulation. Included is the regulation that all gas cylinders should have valves closed, when stored or transported, even when empty.

    Cylinders

    • The construction of gas cylinders more than 30 pounds should be completed with the valve constructed to comply with ANSI standards. The Regulatory Compliance Guide reports the options for constructing the gas cylinder valve are numerous, including a recessed valve or proper boxing of the cylinder valve to provide adequate protection to avoid valve damage.

    Labeling

    • When transporting gas cylinders the Washington State Legislature explains all cylinders should be clearly marked or labeled with the chemical or brand name of the gas contained. The label should be stenciled or labeled so it is easily visible.
