The Types of Transportation in Niagara Falls, Ontario

As with any famous tourist destination, Niagara Falls transit options include all the standard vehicle modes with which to traverse the city. To reach the general area, Amtrak and VIA Rail offer train service, while a number of airlines offer flights via nearby Toronto Pearson International Airport. Guests without access to their own vehicle can take advantage of Niagara Falls bus routes, taxis and limousine services. Perhaps the city's most intriguing modes of transportation involve the various vehicles that provide tours near the Falls themselves.
  1. Whirlpool Aero Car

    • Become a part of history with a trip high above Niagara Falls' rapids in the Whirlpool Aero Car. In operation since 1916, the aerial, open-air cable car travels across the portion of the Niagara River that forms the Niagara Whirlpool, providing views of the water below. A seasonal vehicle, tickets for the ride are available beginning in early spring through November, though weather conditions can prohibit ride availability during the tourist season. The Whirlpool Aero Car provides inexpensive fun for the whole family with child fare tickets for kids aged 6 to 12, while children under age 5 ride for free.

    Maid of the Mist Ferry

    • Ferry tours of the Falls have been in operation since 1846, providing guests with a wet, wild ride as close to the waterfall as a watercraft can get. A drenching experience, passengers are provided with waterproof ponchos to protect their clothing and gear from the windy mists generated from the pounding of the plummeting water and the rocking waves. The half-hour rides depart every 15 minutes during the tourist season from mid-spring through October. At the end of the ride, guests disembark in the Maid of the Mist Plaza where they can tour the Welcome Centre, shop and enjoy some live entertainment or grab a quick bite to eat.
