Opt for direct shipping, also is known as RORO--a service wherby the shipping company rolls the car onto the shipping carrier and then rolls it off upon arrival. The method is the least expensive of all shipping options and provides a fast, convenient service suitable for most cars. For a car that requires special handling and shipping opt for an exclusive container. This service provides a large container to house the vehicle whie it is being shipped. It is customary to use this option when shipping a rare or vintage car.
Obtain a quote. Because costs, rates and insurance prices will vary depending on the vehicle(s) being shipped, the shipping method and the departure and arrival port, it is best to obtain a free quote. Websites such as Autoshippers (see Resources below) and International Car Shipping offer free online quotes. You will need to provide your name, email address and vehicle and shipping information.
Drive the car to one of the following RORO ports in Australia: Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Fremantle or Brisbane. Give the keys to the shipping attendent and he will drive the car onto the ship. The car must be clean and not in violation of any inspection codes before it can be handed over. If the car is damaged, it will be refused immediately. Provide documents of insurance if requested.
Agree to have your car arrive at one of the 34 ports available in Ireland. Ireland is home to 34 shipping ports, including those in Dublin, Cork and Kilrush. Visit the World Port Source for a complete listing of the shipping ports where the vehicle can be claimed (see Resources below).
Check the car for damage. Make sure the car arrives in Ireland in the condition it left Australia. Use the photos to make a comparison. Contact the insurance company if you notice any damage to the vehicle.
