Walt Disney Campgrounds

The Walt Disney Corporation, founded in 1923, is famous for its films and their iconic characters, amusement parks and retail stores. The company operates more than 26 tourist accommodation complexes to create a complete Disney experience for visitors to the Disney Parks as of March 2011. The Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, is one of the first Disney resorts in Orlando and the only campsite in the Disney Resort family. The Disneyland Hotel in California, Disney's Polynesian Resort in Orlando and the Disney Cruise Lines are among some of the other accommodations that offer Disney themed vacation packages. The Fort Wilderness Resort creates a comfortable camping experience for families that includes on-site activities and easy access to the area's Disney parks.
  1. Accommodation

    • The Campsites at Fort Wilderness Resort can accommodate both tents and RVs, and come equipped with electricity and water hook-up, a picnic table, a charcoal grill and a cable television connection. The campsites are also wired for Internet access. Campsites vary in size and can accommodate up to two tents or one extra-long RV. The Resort features rustic one-bedroom cabins complete with a private patio with charcoal grill and picnic table, full kitchen and a bathroom for guests who want the camping experience with the comforts of home.

    Recreation

    • Walt Disney World is only five miles away but there are also recreational activities within the 750-acre campgrounds. The two swimming pools have play fountains, slides, hot tubs and planned activities for children with the participation of Disney characters. The resort has an arcade, jogging trails, playgrounds, open air films, campfire theater and horseback riding trails. Visitors can spend a day at the beach on Bay Lake, fish at the marina or take a tour of the Tri-Circle-D Ranch and Farm on the property.

    Local Attractions

    • The Fort Wilderness Resort is located literally in the middle of all of Florida's Walt Disney World attractions. Walt Disney World and Epcot Center are just five miles away in opposite directions and the ESPN Wild World of Sports Complex is eight miles from the campsite. Downtown Orlando is 20 miles away and Universal Orlando Resort is just 14 miles from the campsite. The Resort has complimentary bus and water taxi transportation to all Walt Disney Resort Theme Parks.

    Dining

    • Groceries are available at two trading post stores on the campground property and visitors may use the charcoal grill or kitchen to prepare meals at the campsite or in the cabins. Visitors can also go out for a meal at one of the resort's four restaurants. For classic dining, the resort has the Trail's End Restaurant that features classic American dishes. Less formal is Mickey's Backyard BBQ, which features an all-you-can-eat buffet and Crockett's Tavern. Families that want to enjoy a dinner experience can go to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, a comedy, music and dance show centered around an all-you-can-eat dinner served by old Wild West performers.
