San Padre Island Camping

Padre Island is a 130-mile long barrier island just off the coast of Texas, and much of that is unspoiled beach. Camping options are nearly endless, from camping right on the beach, to RV parks, to the San Padre National Seashore.
  1. Beach

    • There are many areas at Padre Island where you may pitch a tent on the beach.Just be sure to do so above the high tide line. It is primitive camping, so there are are no services at all. On the north end is an area specifically for this type of camping, but there are many areas where it is possible.

    National Seashore

    • Padre Island National Seashore takes up more than half of the 130-mile long island, and preserves the barrier island's natural qualities. Choose from five main camping areas. There are few services available such as water or electric hookups, but there are dump stations and water is available. Sites are for tents or RV camping.

    Private campgrounds

    • A few privately operated campgrounds exist on Padre Island. A KOA campground is at the south end and has RV and tent campsites. Full hookups are available, as well as a swimming pool and other recreation opportunities. Gulf Waters RV resort also has full hookups and is at the north end of the island. Most private campgrounds are either at the north or south end.

    Mustang Island State Park

    • Mustang Island State Park is at the north end of Padre Island. This park has about 300 campsites with water and electric hookups. The sites are in the woods off the beach, but the beach is within easy walking distance.
